3-Color Cowl

3 COLOR COWL:
(J. Ryan – 2011)
F, G  or  H Hook
3 Coordinating Colors of 4-ply worsted weight yarn
**Note: When changing to a new color, bring up next color as pull last loop through on last st of the row
Ch 97 with Color A

Row 1: 5 dc in 4th ch from hk, *sk 2 ch, 5 dc in next ch, sk 2 ch, sc in next ch, rep from * ending 1 sc in last ch, changing to Color B, turn.  (Do not cut Color A)

Row 2:  Ch 3, 2 dc in first sc, *sk 2 dc, 1 sc in next dc (the center dc of 5), sk 2 dc, 5 dc in next sc, rep from * ending 3 dc in 1 ch, changing to Color C, turn.  ( Do not cut Color B).

Row 3:  Ch 1, sk first 3 dc, *5 dc in next sc, sk 2 dc, 1 sc in next  dc (the center dc of 5), sk 2 dc, rep from * ending 1 sc in 3rd ch of ch-3, changing to Color A, turn. (Do not cut Color C).
Repeat Rows 2 and 3  3 more times (but stop before use Color C) ending with Color B
Fasten off.

Finishing:
First Step – Blocking: Block as a long rectangle and let dry flat
Second Step – Assemble:Sew short sides together with sl st or sc
Third Step – Edging:
Working along bottom of Cowl with RS facing and Color B, sl st to bottom of 1st shell next to seam, (5 dc in bottom of next sc, sc in bottom of next shell) Rep around ending with 5 dc in sc at seam, sl st to beg. sl st.  Fasten off and weave in ends.

GIRLS’ PRETTY PONCHO
K Hook

Measure child’s head and add 1”
Make a ch that equals this length and is divisible by 3

Connect end and  beg of ch with a sl st to make a ring being careful to not twist the chain
Rnd 1:  Ch 5, *sk 2ch, dc, ch 2*, repeat from * to * around; join with a sl st into 3rd ch of starting ch-5
Rnd 2:  Ch 6, tr in same st,  *tr in next dc, ch 2, tr in same dc*,  Repeat from * to * around, sl st into 4th ch of starting ch-6
Rnd 3:  Sl st into next chain (which is part of the first ch-2 sp), ch 4, tr in ch-2 sp, ch 2, 2 tr in same sp, * (2 tr, ch 2, 2tr) all in next ch-2 sp* Repeat from * to * around, sl st into 4th ch of starting ch-4.
Rnd 4: Sl st in next tr and in ch-2 sp, (ch 4, tr, ch2, 2 tr) in ch-2 sp, *(2 tr, ch 2, 2 tr) in next ch-2 sp, Repeat from * to * around, sl st in 4th ch of starting ch-4)
Continue repeating Row 4 until poncho is length desired
For scalloped edging:
Ch 1, sc in same 1st st, 6 tr in ch-2 sp, sk 1 tr, sc in next tr, *sc in next tr, 6 tr in ch-2 sp, sk 1 tr, sc in next tr * Repeat from * to * around. Fasten off.

(Size note:  Girls size 2T = Ch 69; Repeat Row 4- 3 more times)
