Garden Photos of the Knit and Crochet Show Yarn Bomb

There are several gardens all throughout the lobby of the hotel and they were a perfect spot to add some cute creatures and crochet artwork.

One of my daughters created the bird nests and this cute little blue bird.

Butterflies should be in every garden!

And, of course, flowers, too!

We see hummingbirds and ladybugs in our garden all summer long so I had to add them here.

Another one of my daughters crocheted the ladybugs.

The circular and flower-like shape of doilies also make a great addition to the greens of the gardens.

Everyone loved this giant toadstool.

This is a sparkly crocheted wind chime that hung from a tree in the lounge.

All photos of the yarn bomb will be posted on a page to the left and on my Pinterest page - CelKnotCrochet/Jennifer E Ryan.

Indoor Photos of the K & C Show Yarn Bomb!

Yarn bombs are traditionally done outdoors but when I met with the hotel management back in February, I saw the Center of NH (Radisson Hotel) in a new light - its indoor gardens, lounge and railings were a perfect blank canvas for colorful yarn art!

**A special THANK YOU goes out to Carol Meyer (the Conference Manager of the hotel) for all of her support and encouragement that helped make this yarn bomb happen! ***

So, on the day before the conference started, my family and I and Pat decorated the inside of the hotel lobby with beautiful squares from around the country and art pieces we made.

The front desk was completed first so everyone would see this upon checking in.

There is a wonderful lounge with large windows in the hotel lobby -For the conference it was called "The Serenity Zone" - It was a regular hang out for all attendees
and perfect for working on your latest project while meeting new people.

We covered every chair and lamp!

One of the knitters in the Concord, NH area donated this full blanket to the project!
It looked great over the baby grand piano and will be donated to a local charity in the fall.

Anna Morgan of the NYC Crochet Guild made over 100 squares for our yarn bomb!  She helped out a lot by also sewing them together in sets of 5 - I enjoyed seeing her arrive and recognize her squares.

The railings turned out to be a great place to hang special squares.
This one was crocheted by one of my daughters (age 9) out of Red Heart's reflective yarn.  We love how it comes to life with the flash!

And, of course, we couldn't leave the bathroom bare . . . .

This reflective square was made by my oldest daughter (age 12).

And this square was knitted by my grandmother, who is 91 and still crafting!
She has passed on a wealth of creative genes and inspiration to our family.

Since Manchester was once a milling town with large factories (powered by the Merrimack River) that produced cotton and fabric, there are some antique spinning wheels in the Millyard museum and here in the lobby of the hotel.  Its large circle was a perfect place for a giant doily - I used Red Heart's Vivid yarn (which is super chunky) and a simple doily pattern from Lacy Crochet.

More photos of the Yarn Bomb pieces in the hotel indoor gardens to come!

More photos of the Yarn Bomb at the Knit and Crochet Show - July 2014

After 2 1/2 days of installing the various yarn bomb pieces, I finally had time to sit on one of the park benches and enjoy the view!

All of the pieces looked great.  They added warmth, color, style and heart to the courtyard.

These pretty pieces greeted attendees at the front entrance to the hotel  - Yarn bombing just makes you smile!

Notice the cute dog sculpture. . .

. . .and this trash can never looked so good!

A few close-ups of some squares - it rained hard the night we installed the pieces but everything held up well.

This tree looked great with the colorful granny squares wrapped around it.  It was one of the only trees you could see from inside the hotel through the large glass walls.

This piece appeared in a yarn bomb last May (2013) at the Currier Museum of Art in Manchester (just a short drive from the hotel).  My crochet students and I crocheted the pieces - its fun to recycle yarn art! (Click here to see photos of that event)

Throughout the weekend I observed many people sitting on these benches resting, reading, knitting and crocheting.  I wish our yarn art could have stayed up all summer.

Yarn Bomb at the Knit and Crochet Show!

I received over 500 knitted and crocheted squares from around the country made of all sorts of yarns, colors and stitches.  Here is what some of them looked like while arranged in groups in my backyard just a few weeks before the show.  My daughters and I sewed them together to make 'sweaters' for the trees, lamp posts, benches, posts and pillars outside the Radisson Hotel (Center of NH) in Manchester, NH.

Here I am in the process of putting up this beautiful piece on an iron gate. Thank you to the City of Manchester for giving us the permit to decorate the courtyard with yarn art!

This yarn bomb would not have been possible without all of the volunteers who made the squares and the small group of us who worked hard to sew them together and put them up -

Here I am with Pat Heinrich - She was a WONDERFUL help to me.  She is a crochet instructor and has a great group of students who also came to help (see below).  Pat spent many hours also sewing together many squares and even edging them with single crochet!  Above we just finished putting up the first piece around the largest tree. Yeah!

Karen R., Karen S. and Pat are busy sewing squares together in the shade.

Carol and Karen R. were a great help.

Karen and Barbie H. made some black posts pretty with colorful pieces in just minutes!

It was a hot day when we installed all of the outdoor pieces (so not sure if the trees were grateful for their sweaters :) ) but we were all thankful for the breeze in the shade the trees provided.  And I am grateful to those who stopped by to help us sew together pieces or put them up
**THANK YOU to Karen R., Pat H., Karen S., Barbie H., Reenie P, Janet B., Tamara K., Janice C., and Carol **

Here's another look at the colorful piece on the gate - Thank you to Pat for crocheting it together so nicely.

Many more photos of the yarn bomb to come . . .
